The 2006 Racing Season Ends with The Wild Thang!

R/C Monster Motorsports wrapped up the 2006 racing season with
Chase for the Championship race #8 at Superior Hobbies in Casselberry, Florida.
We would like to thank Kirk Dabney for bring out the Wild Thang monster truck to
our last event of 2006. All registered drivers received a limited edition
picture of Wild Thang recognizing R/C Monster Motorsports and Superior Hobbies.
The picture was designed by Bari Musawwir.
Concourse was judged by Ben of Superior Hobbies. This was Ben’s last event with
R/C Monster Motorsports before going on to Marine Corps. flight training school.
Ben has traveled all over the world racing R/C’s for Superior Hobbies and Ben’s
driving skills and tuning abilities are second to none. Ben, you will be in our
thoughts and prayers. On behalf of R/C Monster Motorsports and the men and women
of the United States, Thank You! J.D. Kelly’s Wild Thang II would be Ben’s first
place pick in concourse.
The track set for Side by Side racing was a modified World Finals track layout.
Stuart Shaw Jr. was Top Qualifier in Small Block class. However, Gregg Lafferty
would take first place with a time of 7.338 seconds. In the Big Block class,
Bari Musawwir once again drove Monster Mutt to first place with a time of 6.992
seconds. The Mutt was fitted with a new piston and sleeve for the event. Zeek
Heard had his Grave Digger 20 running strong by top qualifying in Big Block and
Pro R/C Monster truck classes. Zeek took first place with Grave Digger in the
Tuff Truck class with a time of 6.912 seconds and Pro R/C Monster truck class
with a time of 7.227 seconds. Chris Emery was top qualifier and set a new track
record in the Tuff Truck class with a time of 6.753 seconds driving his GS Storm
R/C Monster truck.
In Carpet Drags it was J.D. Kelly top qualifying with Wild Thang in the Small
Block class with a time of 1.477 seconds. Gregg Lafferty won the Small Block
carpet drag racing class with a time of 1.409 seconds. Zeek Heard top qualified
his Batman monster truck with a time of 1.469 seconds in the Big Block class.
J.D. Kelly’s Bigfoot would defeat Batman in the finals with a time of 1.403
seconds.
It was the big three battling it out in truck pulling. Zeek Heard with Iron
Outlaw, Steve Tash with Byron’s Ford Thunder, and Gregg Jewer with the Punisher
tried their best to muscle 99lbs. down the track in a pull off. Zeek Heard and
Iron Outlaw would come closest at 28’ 11” for first place. Byron’s Ford Thunder
was well on their way for another full pull but suffered a catastrophic
transmission failure at the 28’2” mark. Punisher finished up at 21’3 ½”. J.D.
Kelly’s Wild Thang won first place in Small Block truck pulling class with a
distance of 29’10 ½” @ 60lbs.
