Posted: 9/18/2006

Two days of pure competition at the 2006 Summer Nationals located at Race Rock Orlando, Florida Saturday started out with Concourse, Angel Ocasio won first place in Static Display with his Traxxas T-Maxx La Atrevedia truck. Steven Tash won the Daily Driver Concourse competition with his Losi LST Byron’s sponsored Ford Thunder truck.

In Small Block racing, new comer Luis Resto raced Poor Boy’s Toy to victory with a time of 8.484 seconds for his final run. Luis was also Top Qualifier in the event with a time of 8.687 seconds.

Monster Mutt sweeps both the Big Block and Pro R/C Monster Truck events. Bari Musawwir still leader of the pack in Big Block racing took the win with a time of 7.368 seconds. Monster Mutt also showed who the top dog was in Pro R/C Monster Truck class, posting the top qualifying time of 7.848 seconds and winning the class with a time of 7.709 seconds.

Zeek Heard raised the bar in Tough Truck class with his Grave Digger 20. Zeek did an outstanding job with a top qualifying run of 8.105 seconds. Zeek also set a new track record with a time of 7.186 seconds taking the win in the finals against Angel Ocasio’s Ofna Jammin’ truck which posted a time of 7.870 seconds.

R/C Monster Truck pullers were delighted on Sunday by the return of Drag Race Truck pulling. JD Kelly’s Wild Thang would show the competition how it’s done by establishing a Top Qualifying time of 3.274 seconds and winning the Small Block class with a time of 3.514 seconds. Mike Herndon with his Incredible Hulk beat out Steve Tash with his Byron’s sponsored Ford Thunder to win Big Block Drag Race Pulling with a time of 3.295 seconds.

One of the highlights of the 2006 R/C Monster Motorsports Summer Nationals was the test run of a new event called Carpet Drags. President of R/C Monster Motorsports, Fred Reep has always wanted to put on a R/C Monster Truck Sand Drag event. Unfortunately none of our venues are able to support the space needed to build a sand pit. While looking at the Drag Strip for the pullers, Fred put two and two together. The size of the pulling lanes accommodates the sand pits lanes and the slickness of the carpet added the traction variable which made for a nice carpet drag pit. Racer’s liked the adrenalin rush of 1.5 second run times.

Here are the results of our top performers in the Carpet Drag class. Small Block winner was Steve Tash and his Revolocity truck which established a track record with a time of 1.299 seconds. “Now that’s quick!” Steve won the overall Small Block class with a time of 1.311seconds. In Big Block Carpet Drag Racing, Zeek Heard and his Iron Outlaw pulling truck would be the quickest among the pull trucks with a time of 1.486 seconds. JD Kelly was top qualifier of the Big Block class with a time of 1.451 seconds.

Finally, we got down to the big daddy of pulling events, the Unlimited Truck class. Mike Herndon made his Incredible Hulk truck very angry. So angry that the Incredible Hulk R/C Monster truck had enough strength to set a new R/C Monster Motorsports Unlimited Truck Pulling class record! Mike Herndon’s Incredible Hulk truck pulled 130lbs. to a Full Pull of 30 feet! Click here to view a video clip of Mike's record setting run.

Congratulations to all of our event winners. Thanks to all of competitors, spectators, and sponsors. See you at Superior Hobbies in Casselberry, Florida on September 30th, 2006 for our Chase for the Championship Race #4. Racers start gearing up for the return of R/C Monster Truck Carpet Drags.
