New Tracks, New Classes, New eXcitement at eXtreme Hobby Zone

eXcitement was the word of the day at eXtreme Hobby Zone with their newly re-designed Off-Road race track courtesy of JConcepts. Paul Wynn and Jason Ruona of JConcepts were the master minds behind the new track design. Two days of hard work under the hot Florida sun is how long it took for the JConcepts and eXtreme Hobby Zone crew to complete the project.

The official launch of our new Short Course racing classes débuted on the new race surface. Fred Reep President of R/C Monster Motorsports Inc. came out of a fourteen year retirement from off-road racing to celebrate the new classes. The last time Fred raced off-road was in 1994 for Ernie Maines owner of Mattituck Hobbies Mattituck, NY and Wally Rodriguez owner of Savage Racing Products a motor / Battery Company featuring Rodzilla cells in Rocky Point, NY. Wally was also co-owner of Mattituck Hobbies.

Traxxas Slash competition proved to be the newest form of eXcitement to off-road racing. Andrew Moore sponsored driver for JConcepts, Team Orion, Upgrade RC, Winning Edge Designs and Fred Reep of R/C Monster Motorsports battled it out in the A-main. Andrew took the 10 lap win with a time of 3:34.322. Fred was not too far behind for the second place spot at 3: 57.138 @ 10 laps. Look out! The “Grim Reeper” is back! David Yeako took the third place spot at 3:38.066 @ 8 laps.

J82 Short Course racing also débuted on the new eXtreme Hobby Zone track surface, and WOW! These buggies are FAST! Jason Ruona, Paul Wynn, and Andrew Moore battled it out in the A-main. Ruona took the 10 lap win with a time of 2:54.939. Paul Wynn took the second place spot with a time of 3:10.425. Moore took the third place spot with a time of 3:10.604 @ 9 laps. Rock Cross was back at eXtreme Hobby Zone. This time it was a “Run what you brung!” challenge in the 2.2 crawler class.

Jason Ruona was on a roll and took his second A-main victory with a time of 2:31.320 @ 10 laps. Paul Wynn (left) took the second place spot with a time of 2:45.254 @ 10 laps. David Pickels (right) took the third place spot with a time of 2:40.276 @ 8 laps.

Justin Pickels and Steve Cowles battled it out for the top spot in Small Block Monster Truck. Pickels would take the win with a time of 5:03.728 @ 10 laps. Cowles truck suffered engine trouble and took the second place spot with a time of 4:26.391 @ 8 laps.
