First R/C Rock Cross Competition a Huge Success at eXtreme Hobby Zone

Rock crawlers from all over Central Florida attended the first ever R/C Rock Cross competition held at eXtreme Hobby Zone in Winter Haven, FL. This new form of R/C Rock Crawling competition developed by Jason Ruona of JConcepts and Fred Reep of R/C Monster Mortorsports was a big hit for crawling competitors.

Rich Muller from eXtreme Hobby Zone assembled a Rock Cross track which is worthy of being on the cover of Home and Gardens Magazine.

The Rock Cross track isn’t just a show piece, the track is a great proving grounds for this new form of competition.

Race day started with Show n’ Shine competition. Mike Weaver impressed the judges with his Ford Bronco bodied T-Maxx. Justin Pickels took second place with his Chevy truck bodied Axial crawler. David Pickels came in third.

2.2 Rock Cross racing had Paul Wynn claiming the first place spot with a time of 3:10.983 @ 10 laps driving his JConcepts bodied Axial. Jason Ruona took the second place spot driving his JConcepts bodied Axial with a time of 3:14. 650. Wynn and Ruona battled back and fourth through qualifying for the top qualifier spot. Ultimately Ruona took the TQ position with a time of 1:24.256 @ 5 laps. Dennis Davis took the third place spot with a time of 3:22.760 @ 10 laps.

Pro Modified Crawler Class had Walter Waage taking the first place spot with his custom built crawler with a time of 3:11.217 @ 10 laps. Shaun Mercer came in second place with a time of 3:41.100 @ 8 laps driving his custom built crawler.

R/C Monstercross was back at eXtreme Hobby Zone. The Polk County Mad Man Tommy Feichtel was also back and he was on a mission. Not only did Feichtel TQ in Small Block Monster Truck with a time of 1:25.695 @ 5 laps, Feichtel also TQ’ed in Big Block Monster Truck with a time of 1:22.498 @ 5 laps.

Small Block Monstercross racing had Tommy Feichtel taking the first place spot with a time of 2:58.342 @ 10 laps driving his RCMM T-Maxx. Van Parrish dominated the first half of the A main against Feichtel. Unfortunately Van’s truck suffered mechanical issues and took the second place spot with a time of 3:08.330 @ 9 laps driving his Hillbilly Deluxe T-Maxx. Hunter Parrish took the third place spot driving his Third Degree T-Maxx.

Big Block Monstercross racing had Tommy Feichtel once again taking the first place spot driving his eXtreme Hobby Zone Associated MGT in the A main with a time of 3:00.844 against another returning competitor Andrew Baker. Baker took the second place spot with a time of 3:09.137 @ 9 laps driving his new HPI Savage XL. Eddie Davis took third place driving his HPI Savage.

After racing was completed it was time for the JConcepts race day raffle. All of the competitor’s names were put into a box and were drawn in a raffle for various prizes. Competitors did not have to be present to win. Congratulations to all of our winners.

Big Block Truck Pulls had Brian Macumber taking the first place spot with a full pull @ 40 lbs driving his Grim Reaper Monster GT. Bradley Macumber took the second place spot with a pull of 13’ @ 40lbs. driving his Soul Taker MGT. Andrew Baker took the third place spot with a pull of 5’8” @ 40 lbs driving his Trouble HPI Savage XL.

Small Block Truck Pulls had Mike Parrish taking the first place spot with a full pull @ 30 lbs driving his Big Dude T-Maxx. Van Parrish took the second place spot driving Iron Cross T-Maxx with a pull of 29’6” @30 lbs. Eddie Davis took third place with a pull of 6’6”.
