Tampa Bay Racers Reclaim their Turf at Setser’s S.S. RacewayPosted: 3/5/2008
Tampa Bay Racers reclaimed their turf as they battled it out against Team Polk County on the modified St. Louis style race course. Great weather, challenging race course, and big air were all the ingredients needed for Frank Poruba to take top spot in Small Block and Big Block side-by-side racing events.
Small Block Side-by-Side racing, new comer Jessie Crispin top qualified his Traxxas Revo with a time of 13.23 seconds. Unfortunately Crispin’s Revo suffered from electrical problems in the first round. Billy Tinch came back as fast looser in the second round and took the third place spot with a time of 22.903 seconds to his brother Andy, with a time of 28.16 seconds. In the Finals it would be Drew Walker’s Blue Thunder T-Maxx against Frank Poruba’s Oh-S (We won’t ask what the name means!) Traxxas Revo. Poruba took the win with a time of 14.12 seconds for first place to Walker’s time of 24.06 seconds.
Big Block Side-by-Side racing, Dustin Lester driving his Red Rider HPI Savage X would go head to head against Frank Poruba’s BFT (Once again, we will not ask what the name means!) Associated MGT. Poruba’s BFT took the win with a time of 11.24 seconds to Lester’s time of 12.45 seconds. We had a match up against Eddie Inman’s Big Bubba truck against Drew Walker’s Big block T-Maxx for the third place spot. Since both trucks did not legally complete the course in the quarter finals, the decision was made to run the trucks to declare a legal third place win. Inman’s Big Bubba took the third place spot with a time of 12.57 second to Walker’s 16.53 seconds.
Small Block Sand Drags, Billy Tinch took his first ever First place win with R/C Monster Motorsports. Billy had his work cut out for him and his win didn’t come easy. Billy took the first place win by only .006 of a second driving his Traxxas T-Maxx against Frank Poruba’s Oh-S Traxxas Revo. Tinch’s winning time was 1.443 seconds to Poruba’s time of 1.449 seconds. Great Job Billy! Jessie Crispin got all of his electrical problems worked out on his Revo and took the third place spot with a time of 1.733 seconds to Andy Tinch’s 1.833 seconds. Big Block Sand Drags, it would be a Chaney vs. Chaney final. Tony Chaney drove his Gone Stupid Associated MGT past his son Anthony’s Danger Zone Associated MGT. Tony’s winning time was 1.363 seconds to Anthony’s time of 1.707 seconds. Jordan Childs Fender Bender HPI Savage took the third place spot with a time of 1.408 seconds to Dustin Lester’s time of 1.564 seconds.
Small Block Truck Pulls was brother vs. brother. “Brother!” (Sorry a Hulk Hogan moment) Billy Tinch drove his Traxxas T-Maxx to the first place spot with a distance of 25’9” @ 30 lbs. Andy Tinch drove his T-Maxx 15’1” @ 30 lbs for second place.
Big Block Truck Pulls, Bruce Talley took his competitors to school with a full pull at 45 lbs for the first place win driving his Bad Habit Traxxas Revo. Jordan Childs Fender Bender HPI Savage took second place with a pull of 24’5” @ 45 lbs. Eddie Inman’s “Junk in the Trunk” Associated MGT took the third place spot with a pull of 23’5” @ 45 lbs.
