R/C Monster Motorsports made its return to Performance Hobbies’ Atlantic Speedway in Citrus County Florida this past weekend. New and old racers were treated to a great day of competition at an awesome racing facility.

The day started off with R/C Monster Truck Concourse Judging. Steve Tash took home another first place win; Mike Herndon was second and Yvonne Feichtel third. The reining Static Concourse champion Rip Koepke was on hand with Wolf Truck. He once again wooed the crowd and judges with his awesome display truck.

Side-by-Side Racing turned out some great competition on the Chicago Style track configuration using our original Race America timing system. Drivers battled for the track record throughout the morning. Ultimately, Steve Tash set the new track record with a time 9.88 seconds!

The overall winner for Small Block Side-by-Side racing was Steve Tash driving his Byron’s Revolocity. We had several R/C Monster Motorsports firsts in the Big Block Side-by-Side competition. There was a third place tie was between J.D. Kelly driving Wild Thang and new comer Cory Palmer driving J.C Espinet’s White Fang. In the tie breaker race, Cory Palmer took the third place win. In the finals, both Zeek Heard driving Grave Digger and Tommy Feichtel driving eXtreme Hobby Zone both timed in at 10.47 seconds. In a tie breaker match up it would be Zeek Heard claiming victory with a time of 10.79 seconds to Feichtel's 10.84 seconds.

In Buggy/Truggy competition it would be new comers Kurt Gordon driving Cuda and Tony Jackson driving Scar Face in the finals. Kurt Gordon would get his first ever R/C Monster Motorsports win with a time of 12.15 seconds over Jackson’s time of 14.33 seconds.

The adrenalin started pumping at Atlantic Speedway with the grand opening of R/C Monster Motorsports third Sand Drag track. New comer Tony Jackson was thrilled beyond belief with his first ever R/C Monster Motorsports win in Buggy/Truggy Sand Drag racing. Not only did Tony win the class but Tony also set a track record time of 1.247 seconds! In Big Block Sand Drag racing it would be current R/C Monster Motorsports Sand Drag record holder Gene Foust doing battle with Zeek Heard in the finals. Gene won in spectacular fashion riding on his tailgate through the finish line at 1.280 seconds to Heard’s 1.321 seconds.

Small Block Sand Drags matched up rivals Steve Tash driving Revolocity and Tommy Feichtel driving Grave Digger 20. There was only one-ten thousand of a second separating first and second place. Steve Tash took the win at 1.385 seconds to Feichtel’s 1.386 seconds. “It doesn’t get any closer then that!”

Zeek Heard won the Big Block Truck Pulling class driving his Team Losi Iron Outlaw to a full pull of 35lbs on the clay track surface. Tommy Feichtel claimed second place at 28’ 11”, and Yvonne Feichtel was third with 27’ 8”. In the Unlimited Truck Pulling class, Mike Herndon driving his Incredible Hulk out pulled Gene Foust’s Team Magic 1. Mike had a full pull to Gene’s pull of 25’ 3”.

Small Block Truck Pulling turned into a very close competition among the drivers. Rip Keopke took first place with a 30’ full pull with 20lbs on the sled. J. D Kelly came in second place with pull of 28’ 8’ and Steve Tash was third with a pull of 22’ 7”.

Once again we’d like to thank all the racers and spectators for coming out and having a great time. Although, Florida’s sun turned up the heat, everyone enjoyed the race, sportsmanship, competition and good old family fun.
